Meet Barbara... Barbara Lanning attended all 12 years and graduated as Salutatorian from the Lawson School District in 1971 and then attended Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg. In 1987 she started a successful 21 year career in real estate, earned her GRI designation and became co-owner of the Century 21 office she now manages for the current owner. Barbara has been elected to four terms on the Lawson Board of Education, where she is currently serving her 12th year and has earned the Certified Board Member designation by attending many workshops and classes pertaining to boardsmanship. As a member of the Lawson United Christian & Presbyterian Church, Barbara has been a life-long active member and has served 20 years as the church treasurer, as well as many other committees. She also serves her community as President-Elect of the Lawson Chamber of Commerce and has served on the Zoning Board of Adjustments. Barbara and her husband, Larry, have been married 36 years. Larry is retired from General Motors in Fairfax, Kans., and is a member of UAW Local 31. Their son, Chris Lanning, is employed by McCown & Gordon and a member of Carpenters’ District Council of Kansas City Local 1904. They have a daughter and son-in-law, Erin and Scott Murphy. Erin is Operations Manager for UBS in Kansas City, Mo. Scott is also employed by McCown & Gordon and a member of Laborers Local 264. Erin and Scott have a son, Conner, age 4 1/2. Barbara’s parents, Roy and Shirley Cheek, also reside in Lawson. Roy is a proud WWII Veteran and was MIA for 11 months before the war ended.
